Why you should invest in a good pair of trainers, and join a fitness class

It was found by researchers at Exeter University that less than 50% of all adults take part in regular exercise- that exercise itself, is on the decrease.

Everyone these days wants perfect skin, perfect hair and a perfect body, and dieting seems to be the way to go to achieve this. However, as important as it is that you regulate what goes into your body, in order to work towards any physical goals, you need to consider what your body does. And well, if you're a bit of a couch potato, just like I was (and still am sometimes) maybe it's time for you to shake up your routine a little bit.

Regular exercise has been proven to result in the maintenance of a healthier, better looking body. By just doing half an hour to an hour of exercise every day, you will be able to benefit from a reduction in body weight, blood pressure, as well as an increase in good cholesterol. 

Let me take that one step further... Exercise protects  your body against a number of diseases. There is evidence from a number of scientific studies that show that individuals who are more fit, and exercise more often, are less likely to develop many heart related diseases, such as coronary heart disease. Your immune system will also strengthen as a result of exercise, leading to a better resistance of common bugs like colds and flues. 

It has multiple positive implications on your mental health as well. You know how I'm always banging on about how important it is to stay motivated? Well according to the body shop's book of wellbeing, "working out regularly will increase your energy levels and boost your self esteem" which will undoubtedly affect your motivation- and the higher your motivation levels are, the more driven you will be to achieve your goals. 

And as if that's not enough to make you want to run off to your nearest fitness centre, the social aspect of joining a class and participating in regular exercise is just as exciting. Keeping an open mind when joining a fitness or dance class, or maybe even picking up a team sport, can lead you to meeting new people, who are likely to have similar interests as you. I don't know about you, but while I was never a social butterfly, I do love the excitement of meeting someone new. Plus, in the long run it'll drive you to continue to go to the classes or participate in the sport, because you'll get to have a wee catch up with your new friends.

  1. Oh yes I know exactly what you mean! I am going to be continuing weight training in college and I'm super stoked about it. There is also a post on my blog not sure if you've taken a look but it has to do with a group of bloggers involved in fitness and health. That kind of stuff!
