Everything You'll Need to Write and Publish/Schedule a Blog Post

Sunday, 16 October 2016

When I'm blogging, or preparing/planning a blog post, I always surround myself with everything I need so that I have easy access to everything in the matter of seconds.

Everyone takes a slightly different approach to blogging, but I think the majority of people will use mostly the same items as I do, so I've decided to compile a little list of the things you'll need to have access to when blogging. I really hope you find this post useful, whether you're a newbie, or an experienced blogger!

1. A Diary
I actually own two different diaries; one for uni/social life, and another one for keeping on track with my blog. It's so important that you keep a record of the posts that you've published/scheduled so that you space your posts out effectively, and don't post too much of the same content all together. I also use my diary to remind myself to do some of the more 'behind the scenes' aspects of blogging, like promoting my blog on twitter and facebook, and uploading images to instagram!

2. Post-it notes
Not everyone will do this, but I really love using post-it notes when brainstorming ideas for my blog. I currently have a little section of my wall next to my desk where I keep my post-it notes so that if I'm ever out of ideas, I have something to fall back on. Sometimes I'll even take them down from the wall and stick them into my diary if there's a specific idea that I want to write about by a deadline.

3. Staple photo props
Everyone will have a different collection of photo props that they have on the side for emergency photo shoots for their blog, but  for me I have a selection of stationary and makeup products that look great in just about every photo I put them in. I would recommend having a little stash of washi tape, postcards, and notebooks- these are really cute items and can be put together for a general photo or as a background for something else.

4. A Camera
This one is a bit of a no-brainer to be honest with you. When I started blogging, I relied on stock photo sites like pixabay and such, but after a while I realised that these sites don't have a limitless supply of relevant photos, which is when I invested in my own camera and started taking my own photographs for herelectricocean. Obviously sometimes (like today) it just won't be possible for me to take my own photos, and that's completely fine. However, taking good photos is one of the main aspects of blogging, and to ignore that just isn't going to get you anywhere in the blogging world.

5. Notebooks
I go through notebooks just like I go through food... i.e. I absolutely devour them. I have a little stack of notebooks in my bedside table which I use daily, each of them with their own unique use. I have a notebook for blog ideas and plans, one for logins and passwords, one for recording cute little quotes in... you name it, I've got it (in a notebook).

What are your blogging essentials?
