Every Day is a Fresh Start

Fresh starts and new beginnings are usually linked with New Years, or major events in your lives such as moving house, or starting a new job. These are the things that refresh your perspective, and often cause you to realise that you have the power to determine how your outlook in life is going to be. We often take the run up to New Years Day to reflect on the past year, in order to find our faults and create goals for ourselves so that we can learn from past mistakes. But what's stopping us from doing this every day?

Lately, I've been exploring the power that every ordinary new morning holds. Each morning, in the 10 minutes it takes me to get out of bed, I have the ability to make or break my day- and most of that is in the first 5 minutes of my consciousness. 

I remember reading a magazine which talked about the power of smiling; it talked about how smiling first thing when you wake up in the morning can actually change your whole outlook on the day. According to this magazine article, smiling for 15 seconds in the morning when you wake up will make you 70% happier throughout the day. So even if you go to sleep with a heavy burden, you alone have the power to shrug it off with a smile in the morning.

Each day is a new page in the book of your life, and every morning you wake up to a completely blank page. Every morning, you are the writer, and you write the introduction. Only you can decide how you are going to write this page- you can write whatever you want. 

It's completely up to you. You decide whether you're going to wake up with a positive mindset, and consciously make an effort to look at the brighter side of life- or not. You could always choose to reflect on the negatives... but by doing that you're only going to get yourself into a horrible grump, which will probably make everyone around you feel that little bit shittier too. 

Keep this in mind; glass half empty or glass half full, either way you won't be going thirsty. In the morning, it's even more imperative than any other time of the day to consciously make an effort to count your blessings- not your flaws.
