5 Happy Things

Sunday, 29 October 2017

First up, before I properly start this post, can I just say a huge THANK YOU to the lovely people who commented, tweeted, and messaged me privately in response to my last post (which you can read here). I talked a little bit about my recent struggle with Seasonal Affective Disorder, and I was completely taken aback by the response I got... every little message really touched my heart, and it means the world to me that you guys care

Back in the day, my '5 Happy Things' posts were a regular feature on the blog. At least once a month, I would sit down and make a list of all the things that had filled me with that lovely, warm, fuzzy feeling of joy... and then from that I hand picked the 5 that I could talk about. They were my favourite posts to write, my favourite to read back over, and some of my biggest hits on the blog.

It's been a while since I last reflected on the things that have made me smile, and I feel like after last Wednesday's post it's even more fitting that I do just that.

The one thing that makes me happier than coming  home to a clean and organised flat, is coming home to a clean, organised, decorated flat. I've always been super into my festivities, so getting my flat all Autumnal (Hygge Style), and decorating for Halloween has been super satisfying.

2 - My Halloween-Themed Birthday Bash
I have always made my birthday as a bit of an event. I have a lot of friends that are scattered all around different parts of the UK, so it's the perfect opportunity for me to get all (or at least most) of them all together. My birthday being the day before halloween is perfect for me, because it means that everyone's up for getting all dressed up to party! This year I decided to host a wee gaff in my brand new flat, and it was a booming success. The dress-code was "Children's Classics" (Think Peter Pan, Cinderella, Black Beauty, Alice in Wonderland...) so everyone really put effort into their costumes, which was so lovely. If you follow me on instagram (@Saralouisaxo) you may have noticed my story was a little bit FLOODED with pictures and videos of me and all my friends all dressed up in our costumes on Friday.

3 - A Day of Blue Skies
I'm not going to lie... on the whole, the weather lately has been grey and gloomy with a hint of demotivation and angst. BUT on Friday, I woke up to this magical thing they call sunlight streaming through my window. And for most of the day, I could actually see the sky- i.e. it wasn't covered up by the horrible grey clouds. It's the little things, ya' know?

4 - Made In Chelsea
I've always had a little soft spot in my heart for Made In Chelsea... It's been my comforter since I was 16 and totally shocked by Spencer and his bad, bad ways- oh did I have so much to learn about the world. Lately I've gotten back into it, and started watching it from where I last stopped way back on season 4. And yes, that means I have 10 more seasons to go. It's just the perfect show to come home to with a mug of hot chocolate- the things that go on just make me feel so much better about my own life, lol.

5 - Edinburgh Gin
This year, I decided to go completely sober for the month of October, which meant no drinking, at all. Not even one glass of nice wine when I was out with my friends. Nothing, nada. To congratulate myself for making it to the end of the month (and as a bit of a birthday present from me, to me) I decided to #TreatMyself to a nice bottle of Rhubarb and Ginger infused Gin Liqueur. And yes, I know how ironic it is to get myself drink to reward myself for not drinking.

The lady at John Lewis actually asked me if I was buying the it for anyone's birthday, and I had to -very embarrassingly- admit that it was for my own birthday.

lol.

  1. I love Made in Chelsea - I’ve watched it from the beginning! It’s such a cosy programme and I end up getting too wrapped up in the drama haha!
