November Goals and Bloggers to Watch Out For

Wednesday, 8 November 2017

I've had a bit of a crazy-hectic week.

In the space of seven days, I have managed to lost my phone at least 5 times, lose my student card, spend almost all my money, and break my laptop. Yes, break... as in I'm never going to be able to use it again. Life as a student blogger just got a WHOLE LOT harder.

And it couldn't have come at a worse time, with my assignments have started building up and slowly starting to resemble a small mountain. Looks like I'm going to be spending a heck of a lot of my time in the university library. Nice.

Relatively speaking, quite a fair amount has changed since I wrote my last Goals post back in September. In two months I have started to look more into my analytics and statistics as a tool to help me grow my blog, and I've definitely seen this having a positive impact on Sara Louisa. I still want to continue growing and improving, though, and here is how I plan to do so...

TWITTER - FOLLOWERS

In the past month and a half, I have organically gained roughly 120 meaningful twitter followers. It's been so difficult to grow my twitter following, and to attract followers who stay. The most aggravating thing has been follow/unfollow bots. I don't generally follow people just because they have followed me- and I don't expect the same from anyone I've followed. there have been nights where I've gone to sleep having gained 10 followers, only to wake up having lost 15. I now have roughly 1,160 followers on Twitter, and I hope to grow this to 1,300 by the end of the month.

TWITTER - CHATS

I took part in an average of 5 chats a week over the summer months. Through participating in these chats, I got to learn so much more about the blogosphere, meet some incredible blogging gals, grow my twitter following, and boost the stats on my blog. Through the business of uni, moving flat (and life in general tbh), my participation in twitter chats has definitely taken a back-seat. This is something I really want to change, so this month I aim to take part in at least 5 twitter chats.

COMMENTING & ENGAGING MORE

I've become a bit of a #Boss at supporting, encouraging, and engaging with bloggers on twitter lately, but that's just not good enough for me. I read so many blog posts every day but I've become so lazy with commenting, which sucks because I know how much every comment on my blog posts mean to me. Plus, comments sometimes (but not always) result in increased traffic to Sara Louisa, which is always a nice little added bonus.

PHOTOGRAPHY

I'm pretty proud of the photos that I've been taking and putting up on my blog & social media lately. In the past few months, I've made it one of my top priorities to up my photo-taking game. I still have so much to learn, but practice makes perfect. So, I'm going to totally cut out all stock photos this month. All the posts I publish in November will either be taken by me, or of me. Like these photos that my lovely flatmate took of me.

CONTENT

I definitely feel like I've been lagging behind a bit in terms of being organised with my content. Uni and work have somewhat consumed my time, so it's become more difficult than ever to keep up with publishing two posts a week. Last year I stopped blogging completely for a couple of months, but I am DETERMINED to keep going this year. Over the summer I was able to schedule posts months in advance, yet now I always seem to end up writing my posts the day before they're meant to go up. This week, I'm going to really focus on creating some quality content so that I can go back to being at least a little bit more organised with my content.

As well as continuing to grow and improve my own blog, I want to take a bit of time to shine light on some of the amazing bloggers I've come across lately.

Charlotte is actually from the same district in Scotland as I am, and she went to the same school as me, which is pretty insane considering how small my hometown is. I have a lot of respect for Charlotte; as a fashion blogger in a small town, there are always going to be people who think what you're doing is ridiculous- and it can be so hard to put yourself out there, especially when you don't follow mainstream/blogging trends. She is so honest, and so true to herself on her blog, and I think that's something that she should get a lot more recognition for.

I've written about Jasmin before, in a post I published late in September this year about three bloggers I thought were killing it. Somehow, this gal manages to find the time to publish posts almost daily- all while being an incredible mother to her little boy, Dino. Oh, and did I mention that she isn't even a native English speaker, yet she writes all her content in English. Someone give that girl a gold medal, seriously.

ALICE | TWENTY SOMETHING CITY
Alice is literally the definition of a Girl Boss, and her blog illustrates her personality perfectly with outfit posts that ooze confidence and style. Much like Charlotte, she is brutally honest about her experiences, and I can tell you that she is not the kind of gal to sugarcoat anything... and she's all about supporting the little people, and shining light on the issues that students and twenty-somethings face on a daily basis. Alice recently totally made my day by commissioning me for some photos for her blog, and I was so honoured to see some of them featured on this post.

JEMMA | DORKFACE
Jemma is an actual gem in the blogging world. I've followed her blog for a couple of years now, and it never fails to put a smile on my face. She's maintained a pretty vibrant and colorful aesthetic, which reflects her bright and bubbly personality just perfectly. Recently, Jemma caught my eye on twitter by taking a day out of promoting her own blog and etsy on social media, and instead focused on promoting the work of other bloggers and creatives.

  1. You have some really great goals, and a lot of them I share with you! Particularly commenting more on blogs - I try so hard to keep up with all the excellent content on my Twitter feed but it's tough work. I have a lot of admiration for you students, not sure I could fit it all in!
Also love your blogger recommendations, I haven't heard of a couple of these lovely ladies so I'm off to check them out now!

  2. I love the outfit you are wearing in those photos! I know I didn't know Jasmin didn't speak English as her fist language. She really is amazing. You've been doing really well with your blog too as I have noticed!
