I'm Coming Back

Saturday, 11 July 2020

The last post I wrote and published on this blog was called "Why I stopped Writing, and How I Got My Spark Back". Almost a year and a half later, and I can tell you that I had not, in fact, got my spark back, and that the week after I published that post I got bombarded with a gazillion university assignments.

It's kind of ironic, I guess.

I suppose you could say that it speaks to how easy it is to pledge to do something, and how much harder it is to follow through with your plans when life happens. Funny thing about that is, that life usually happens.

School gets overwhelming.

Work gets stressful.

Friendships come and go...

and so do relationships.

A lot has happened since I last picked up my laptop to write or publish a blog post. But you could probably have guessed that already. Don't worry, I promise I'll catch you up on the most important bits of my life in the last year and a half- but that's for another post.

Right now, I just want to focus on sharing my vision for this blog, and making a renewed pledge for 2020.

First of all, I want to address the fact that I have done ZERO research before writing this blog post. For all I know, when I post this, the blogging landscape could have changed COMPLETELY. I mean, the only two blogs I've actually read during this 'hiatus' (if you want to call it that), is my friend Vanessa's blog which you can read here, and my other friend Nadine's blog which you can read here. Nadine's blog is actually the reason I was inspired to return to the blogging community.

Basically what I want to say is this: when I stopped blogging in January 2019, I had a good idea of what I was doing. I had been blogging consistently for well over 5 years (I'm pretty sure I started this blog around 2014-2015, but I had TWO blogs before this one!), and I had kept up with all the current biggest bloggers. I knew the trends, and I was pretty good at discerning which ones were worth following or vice versa.

Now? I feel like I know nothing.

I don't even know if Blogosphere still sells its monthly magazine.

I don't know if people still host events for bloggers (although obviously not right now because of that MONSTER we call COVID-19).

I don't know what kind of photos are most liked- do people mind if you use a stock picture? Are flatlays still a big thing, or do you want to see a cute outfit pic?

It's become evident to me that if I'm really serious about really returning to the blogging community full force, I'm going to have to brush up on my knowledge and really immerse myself again... just like the good old days. I do, after all, have 17 months of blogging to catch up on.

But that's where you come in.

Yes you- the reader. I want my readers to participate. I want interaction. And... I need your help. Whether you're a fellow blogger, or just a fan, I would really appreciate all the feedback you can give me right now. Whether it's positive or negative- I want to know. I want to know if you like my content, if you think it's outdated, if you think I could improve...  And I promise I won't get butthurt if you tell me you don't like my flatlay.

Even if I spent half an hour arranging it, and another half hour taking 50 photos from different angles.

And that's not even counting editing time.

I'm kidding, really. I truly do want to know it all: the good, the bad, and the ugly.

And I want YOU to tell me.

Looking towards the future of this blog, I would ideally like to go back to publishing at least one post a week, just as I used to... but I don't know if that will be sustainable, especially come August (you'll hear all about why in my next post). For now, the only pledge I will make is to write and publish blog posts when I can, and when it's enjoyable.

When I look towards the future of this blog, my hope is that you, the reader, will be right there with me. Until next time...

Adios, xo

  1. I can completely get where your coming from when you lose all motivation for it and it seems like a lot of work. I look forward to seeing your future blog posts! Thank you for sharing!

    1. YAYYY!!! The flatlays can stay then !

  4. Welcome back! I don't know about the magazine or events (although I've seen blogger events being hosted in the UK?) but cute outfit pictures and flatlays are still in.

    1. Thank you! I think it'll take me a while to reestablish my blog before I start thinking about blogger events... but I might keep an eye out since you've seen some events happening! There's plenty more to come!

  5. Glad you're back at it... again! Can't wait to see more from you.

    1. Thank you so much Cassie! The next post will be up this Saturday ;)

  6. Happy to hear you’re back at it!
